Evolution Of The Window Shades
One wise man said your home shows who and what you are. I for one, give absolute credence to the above saying and you should too. We often tax our brain and mind to find the most suitable décor for each room in the house for selecting the carpet, to wall hangings, to flower vases and every article that can add an aura to the room. Sadly though, most of us forget the power of the window, for this is what gives us light and with out absolute control over the light source, all that we have done in the room will go waste if they are not projected in the right light.
This is where the window shades and its most important accessory, the blinds come into play. Man’s evolution has brought in its wake several options and the transition from normal curtains to sophisticated blinds as a matter of course. With prosperity, man’s taste in culture and ambience took an upturn and he started to seriously look around in his house. It dawned on him that, to be taken seriously, one must display taste and color and light in the right proportions in every room of his home.
As a man rose in society, he would be invited to other people’s houses for parties and he would have to reciprocate when all the guests would survey his habitat critically from all view points.
The blinds play a pivotal role in a room’s ambience and selected properly, show even a mediocre setup as .Now available in most furnishing stores are a variety of blinds .They are slowly replacing curtains because of their elegance, privacy, space saving, simplicity and variety of types and extra ordinary hues .There are, of course, the conservatives who swear by the curtain, but a large majority are over the blinds in spite of the fact that they are much more expensive. Many commercial establishments also now exclusively use the blinds.
More and more people are yearning for privacy and this is amply proved by usage of blinds which keep prying even out. There are mainly two types of blinds, the horizontal one and the vertical type .Both these types are controlled and operated by a manual mechanical system that can help open and close the blinds in such a way as to control the amount of light you would have enter the room. It leaves no soggy smell like unwashed curtains and normally being made from anodized or powder coated aluminum, can be cleaned with ease. However, always ensure that you have a regular maintenance agreement with some one who knows blinds so that you can enjoy trouble free operations. Regular cleaning with non toxic soap at home will keep them fresh and gleaming.
These blinds popularly referred to as horizontal blinds or vertical blinds come in an attractive choice of colors from which you must select the one most suitable to the room for which it is meant. Some people go further and use wooden or even bamboo blinds which have to be rolled up and down. Ultimately everything depends on your perception of beauty but it would be wise to remember that your opinion of what is best may not be showed by all and therefore a balance should always be struck in all such decisions.

Flowers On The Roof

The tulip path lead to a stairway
of chrysanthemums
supporting a sunflower foundation....
Windows framed in orchids captured light
making the rose petal floorboards appear to glow
Petunias hung like chandeliers
and there were bamboo walls stretching skyward
Yet there were no flowers on the roof.....
Well now. I liked the sentiment in your poem for ma, earlier (yesterday?) but this is a much better poem. I love the fact that I can imagine you wandering through a tenement seeing flowers, OR wandering through nature seeing a tenement, and the flowerless roof is then the sky.
This is very very good. And you know I would tell ya if it wasn't.
