How to care for vertical Blinds
Like many of us you have ordered some new vertical blinds, either online or from a high street retailer. They are finally installed and the look great, even better than you had imagined!
Fast forward twelve months, they are no looking a little tired, maybe even shabby, so what are you to do? Go out and buy some more? If only... If only you had followed these simple steps to maintain them.
Firstly the vanes may become tired or dirty looking, so how do you clean them?
To be able to clean your louvers you must understand some of the basic terms regarding their care.
Washable can be washed in a washing machine. To get them ready simply, Unhook all weights and chains and remove the louvers from the head rail.
Next them all up together and place them in to a pillow case making sure they cannot come loose. Seal the pillow case tightly with elastic bands and place in the washing machine on the lowest temperature possible. Stop the machine before spin dry and remove the Vnes Place them on a blanket to dry but out of direct sun light. Hang back up when they are dry.
Non washable means you can wipe them and probably still wash them but not in a machine. Lay them flat in a bath, use a hand wash powder. Never use washing up liquid as this is mostly salt based. Do not leave in the bath for more than a few minutes and wipe over them with a sponge or soft cloth.
To wipe them in situ, just use a sponge or cloth with hand wash powder mixed into water to wipe over them.
Wipeable means as above.
As a rule of thumb, it is best to follow the hand wash instructions rather than a washing machine even if they are machine washable.
If you are unsure which type of fabric you have then use the wipe only method.
Never allow louvers to fold over as creases will not fall out.
Never dry them in direct sunlight.
Next you need to look at the weights, chains and Hangers, these can become brittle or damaged, all can be easily replaced from many online stores.
Lastly the headrail, a common problem with inferior headrails is the carrier trucks snap or break due to extensive use, sadly these are very hard to self fix, you are much ordering a quality headrail online.
So now you can sit back and enjoy your new vertical blinds, safe in the knowledge that not only do you know how to care for them, but also how to find cheap replacement parts if you need to.

How do I remove mould from fabric vertical blinds?
The vertical blinds have been up for ages and have acquired general household mould along the bottom..... anyone got any good tips for the best way to get rid of it? Thanks in advance 
If it's true mold and you cannot toss them them, it'll be tough to get them back to a healthy sanitary condition without using a special product. Get some Jomax from your local hardware store, follow directions to mix with bleach and treat those blinds either by submersion or spray. But you should know that regular warm soapy water does NOT kill mold spores.
